WeWhistled

About the Author

Joanna Strange was WeWork’s first whistleblower.

In 2016, Joanna gave Bloomberg internal forecasts showing that WeWork was missing its financial targets. The company fired her and sued her.

She later told the fuller story through Bloomberg’s Foundering, Hulu’s WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn, HBO Max’s Generation Hustle, interviews, and public appearances.

She now writes and speaks about whistleblowing, corporate culture, retaliation, organizational belief, and what happens when accurate information becomes dangerous to deliver. Her completed memoir, WeWhistled, is currently seeking publication.

Before WeWork

Joanna’s career has crossed theatre, film, operations, consulting, and executive coaching. She holds a B.A. in Theatre Performance from the University of South Florida and an M.A. in Directing from New York University.

That career may not look linear but it gave her an unusual way of seeing institutions: as operating systems, financial stories, and performances. At WeWork, all three depended on belief. The trouble began when belief stopped inspiring people and became a substitute for evidence.
